The Pride of Indus River

 The Pride of Indus River

A rare species of dolphin is in the Indus River. That is the pride of Indus. According to Nazeer Virani (the guardian of Dolphins) about 200 kilometers area near Sukur Barrage, there are 30 Dolphins. In another area of the river, there are nearly 1800 to 2000. Unfortunately, these Dolphins are blind because the water of the river is so polluted that light can’t reach underwater. So, it’s impossible to see. That makes Dolphins blind. But they have adjusted themselves by their ecosystem with the surrounding. This is the reason they survive.

They have two flippers that look like a human’s hand that helps them to swim and control their speed. Their sound pitch is different underwater and on the surface of the water. There are 30 to 36 teeth in their jaws, just to grab the food. They eat crabs, small fish, and catfish in the depth of the river. They can also hunt by swimming oblique. There is a fat layer under their skin.

Indus Dolphins and the Ganges are different species. Their mostly features are distinct such as teeth, coloration, skull shapes, and even their growth pattern. Indus Dolphins are endangering species that’s why it is now protected by the government and WHO. Its battle of surviving is going on. If it is not conserved then this beautiful creature will be distinct.

Many steps are taken to protect the beautiful creature.

1 It is prohibited to hunt it.

2 Training is given to the fishermen of the river, how to do fishing that Dolphin can’t be hunt.

3 These Dolphins have very weak lungs to breathe and need great care. So, whenever they get trap in shallow water, the volunteers put them back in deep water. They have to keep their eyes on Dolphins.

4 Efforts are going to save the water from pollution by the government, volunteers, and WWF.

By all these efforts, the population of Dolphins is now over 3000.
